#6 of 7—Baggage in the Game of Life

If you want to win and succeed in the game of life, there are some prerequisites. Our previous conversation addressed mastery of The Rules of the Game as #6 of 7 requirements to win; #5 is getting rid of the baggage—shedding the weight.

Clearly, to win a 100 meters race of any repute is virtually impossible if you drag your favorite chair with you while running. This is no deep insight, however, many would-be winners, in pursuit of their highest aspirations, drag with them bad memories of the past, unforgiven wrongs and other emotional baggage. This type of baggage is no less harmful in killing your dreams and dousing the passion needed for excellence.

Are you satisfied with pretty good results, or are you serious about achieving spectacular successes in your lifetime? If the latter is true, then make sure that you work on the heaviest types of emotional baggage that weigh down potential winners:

  • Forgive everyone who has done you wrong in the past; yes, everyone
  • Get away from dream stealers—the skeptic, cynic, pessimist and those who do not believe in you
  • Get rid of the fat—the indulgence and bad habits—and discipline yourself to the task
  • Work actively on your mindset—attitude, self-confidence, courage and faith, as examples.

Clearly, you must master the technical skills and capabilities as well, but emotional baggage is far more responsible for producing losers than is lack of ability.  Are you as successful as you would like to be? If not, what baggage are you willing to give up so that you can move like the wind toward your dreams?

For #4, check back next week. 😊

QUESTIONS:

  • Is it really possible to forgive everyone—aren’t some wounds too deep to forgive?
  • How can one really know if emotional baggage is the barrier to one’s dreams and not other causes?
